Residents To Reduce Water Usage
BRANDON -
Demand for water in this fast-growing area has peaked recently, putting
Tampa Bay Water dangerously close to exceeding its pumping permit,
officials say.
It is putting
out an urgent call for water conservation, particularly in the
south-central area of the county, where water use is highest on weekends
despite a prohibition on irrigation on those days.
"If
every person in the south-central Hillsborough service area saves only 23
gallons of water a day, we can reduce our daily demand by about 6.5
million gallons'' meeting needs and staying within the permit levels, said
David Bracciano, demand-management coordinator for Tampa Bay Water.
Hillsborough
County commissioners recently voted to cut irrigation back to once a week
to help the conservation effort.
