New AWWA leader addresses water security
ORLANDO, FL —
New American Water Works Association (AWWA) president Kathryn L. McCain
addressed the 2004 Annual Conference and Exposition, citing water security
as a top priority, according to an association news release.
McCain said that
the water industry is a vital part of the safety of the public and that
part of her duty will be to ensure that their customers and elected
officials recognize the importance of a safe drinking supply along with
customer satisfaction and fiscal responsibility, the news release said.
McCain says
during her presidency she will raise awareness of the value of water,
ensure the security of water supplies, and plan for a future in which AWWA
will continue to grow, said the news release.
An
AWWA member since 1985, McCain served two terms as an AWWA vice-president
while serving as the
Texas section
director. She was a member of the AWWA Membership Committee and served as
chair, the release stated.
McCain also
established and chaired the Operator Involvement and Young Professionals
Committees. She has served on AWWA's Administrative and Policy Council,
Distribution and Plant Operations Division, and the Education Task Force,
the news release said.
Established in
1881, AWWA is the oldest and largest nonprofit scientific and educational
organization dedicated to safe drinking water in
North America, according to the news release.
